SSWBN – Breakfast
With a larger crowd than last year, July’s breakfast event was once again full of energy (even for so early in the morning!) We welcomed 4 guests and a lot of familiar faces.
With Janet LaBerge of Dirty Deeds at the helm, you are guaranteed a smile and/or a belly laugh, she’s promised to start every meeting with a joke. This is the place to be if you want to start your day off on the right foot.
Sponsor Beth York of Beth York Real Estate provided a touching account of how her hobbies and extracurricular activities provide the foundation of the work she does in real estate. Beth started her business (or what she calls “The Big WHY”)
- To be around for the moments I want to remember, even if my children forget.
- For the moments my children will remember, even when I’m not around to remind them.
How does being a competitive skydiver and skydiving coach apply to her real estate business?
- There is always someone better/smarter/funnier/taller/younger/ older/etc.— than you (SO FIND THEM AND ASK FOR HELP. BE A STUDENT, LET THEM TEACH YOU!) How boring would life be if we didn’t keep learning?
- Show up, do your best. Every time, work on making YOUR BEST, Better. Beths’s mantra: Right here, right now, my personal best!
- If you’re not making mistakes, you’re not trying hard enough.
- If it’s worth working for, its hard working for
- Focus, stay in the moment, and the rest of the world falls away.
- Risk is rewarding
And isn’t this the perfect message for all business owners or professionals? Our personal lives are not separate from our professional lives. One teaches us things that benefit us in the other. Thanks, Beth for sharing your story! (And showing up in your hot pink diving suit! Cool!) Beth, in my opinion is a real life example of “feel good living”.
Another feel good moment – when Christy Kendrick of Acme Glass shared her new 20 second introduction. Her intro was good enough to win her the honor of “best introduction” Congratulations, Christy!
The event concluded with a fun table networking exercise created by the Membership team – 2 truths and 1 lie. Each individual wrote down two truths and one lie about themselves and the rest of the table members had to guess the lie. What fun, and proof that this network is 1) full of interesting people who have a lot going on outside of their work life and 2) full of creative people – some of those lies were GOOD!
If you missed this breakfast, you have an opportunity to catch up next month. Holiday Inn Rockland, 7:30am, Thursday August 26. Visit the SSWBN calendar for more information and a list of events until then.
