Wow! September is here.  Kids are going back to school and personally, I feel recharged and motivated to start this last quarter of the year with a bang!!  With Summer behind us, attending more networking events and getting to see all of you is something I have been looking forward to!  Now on with our Connections!

Loraine Fields of The Flower Mill sends a heartfelt thank you to Janet LaBerge from Dirty Deeds for the fantastic work station she received for her shop, as well as for the twin beds she found for Loraine’s grandkids!  Janet rules!   Loraine also sends a big thank-you to Gwen Morgan of The What If Workbook for her hydrangeas. Loraine also writes, “Thank you to Marguerite Salvucci of South Coastal Bank for allowing me to provide the floral decor for her daughter’s wedding.  That was a huge vote of confidence for a new business owner!”

Our new president, Janet Laberge from Dirty Deeds would like to thank Beth York of Beth York Real Estate for hiring Dirty Deeds to remove items from their lovely home — and for the introduction to Wonder Dog, Bella.  Janet also sends a big thank you to Michael Christopher and the technicians at My Tech for the new HP laptop.  “My five-year-old Dell desk top was slower than cold molasses, so now I’m operating at super speed!”  she said.  Thanks to Ewa Deveney of Studio 123 in Norwell, who keeps Dirty Janet a little less facially dirty every month.   “I gave my 16-year-old son a facial for his birthday and he LOVED it.  The best part of it for me was hearing Ewa say how polite he was.  As long as he can do the right thing in public, I guess we’re on the right road.  Thanks for your kind words Ewa!”  Janet said.

“Thanks to Sharon Fisher of Come to Order Organizing for her referral to a very nice woman in Rockland who needed some heavy stuff removed in order to prepare her home for sale.  Thanks to Cathi Burke of Angel Light for doing an Angel Reading for me.  I wanted to get a reading done because I didn’t quite understand what an Angel reading was and want to be able to refer business to members.  Now that I have experienced a reading, I can tell you that I am glad that I did.  I now have a road map for my entire year and I know what challenges I will face and what I can do to move the process along.  Now I know that not everyone is a believer in things you can’t see, but I have always believed that there is good energy and bad energy out there in the world and I want to know how to attract and send out positive energy.  Cathi’s reading made total sense for where I am as a parent, a business person and your President.  The great news for the Network is that it was a very positive reading with lots of GREAT things to come in the year ahead, which is exactly what I am predicting too.  No matter what you believe in, if you project out into the world that you want good things to happen and come your way, all the research shows that it is more likely to happen for you than if you project fear, uncertainty or negativity,” said Janet.

She added, “Thank you to Becky Coletta of Coletta Law Offices in Hanover for referring a friend who needed a clean-out.  Her friend has had a difficult time letting go of stuff from her parent’s house in order to have it ready to go on the market, and it was a pleasure to be able to help her work through this process.  Thanks Becky for trusting me to help with this.

“Thanks also to Deborah Larson of Spascape Day Spa in Scituate for hiring Dirty Deeds for several clean-out projects.  Deb is opening a new spa in the Pine Hills, so she has been unable to come to any of our events, but she promises me that she will be able to start coming this fall.  I thought that I was the Pay It Forward person.  Talk to Deb for a few minutes and hear the kind of give-back that she does for her community and has been doing all of her life.  I am so pleased to welcome a person of this caliber to our network.

“Thanks to Monica Horan of Express Staffing, who will be working with Dirty Deeds to provide the extra muscle needed on bigger jobs by sending over temporary workers.  My back and knees thank you!  Thanks to Francine Jeffers of Setting the Space (my friend Blair Hamaty’s business) for referring Dirty Deeds to a friend who is preparing a parent’s home for sale and needed the emotional support and onsite physical lifting that we could provide.

Katie Howard of SSWBN would like the thank Tom Johnston of Cartridge World. We ordered some cartridges for our printer and Tom delivered them within a half hour! WOW! Great service … plus it makes us feel good to be reusing cartridges rather than sending them to a landfill!

Patty Funder of LaserLight for Men and Women thanks Lisa Marie Williams of Lisa Marie’s Boutique for the quick, on-the-spot adjustment she did on her daughter’s dress, just before she had to fly out to CA for a wedding.  “My daughter had worked hard in a weight management program to lose 20 pounds and was quite proud of herself.  Getting a dress to fit well made her feel so good — for the first time in a long while,” said Patty.  “Lisa Marie interrupted her busy schedule to do this job – what difference to my daughter!”

I hope you are all enjoying your summer.  Now is a good time to start to put together a marketing plan for the next quarter, and to make networking is a strong component of that!  Just look at the wonderful submissions this month as shining examples of how effective networking is!

Diane Sargent of South Shore Elder Services, Inc. (SSES) gives a big ‘thank you’ to the following members who gave so generously of their time and money to enable SSES to host its fifth successful Aging is Everyone’s Future conference in May:  Phyllis Wenzel, Image Resolutions, print sponsor; Robert Petrelli & Susan Peters, Mt Vernon Mortgage; Sheila DeWolfe, Norwell VNA & Hospice; Tina Dwyer, South Shore VNA & Hospice;  Lynda Chuckran, Welch Healthcare and Retirement Group; and Lucille Sorrentino, Weymouth Health Care Center.  Still more SSWBN members contributed to an informational table so that SSES could provide valuable information to guests:  Katie Howard, SSWBN; Laura Willis, Willis-Works Communication and Gen-Sights; Janet LaBerge, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap; Jennifer Moran, Home Instead Senior Care;  Julie Gibbons, New York Life;  and Toni Eaton, Old Colony Hospice.  Diane gives a special acknowledgement to Lynda Chuckran, Laura Willis and Susan Peters, who shared their personal stories of how they incorporated caring for a family member into their busy professional lives.

Diane Sargent wrote further that she is ‘truly grateful to the wonderful staff at Visiting Angels’ for their generosity and hard work, which will enable SSES to help many seniors in our communities through SSES’ Special Needs Fund.  Visiting Angels of the South Shore raised $15,000 for South Shore Elder Services and Old Colony Elder Services at their first Dancing with the Angels fundraiser in May at the Plimoth Plantation. More than 200 guests danced to live music by the White Heat Swing Orchestra to raise money for the Special Needs Fund shared by the two agencies.  The Special Needs Fund helps elders in 34 communities on the South Shore with everyday necessities of life, such as food, clothing, shoes, fuel, medicine and shelter.  To learn more about SSES, contact Diane at South Shore Elder Services, Inc.

Lois Wood of Lois Wood Graphic Design thanks Victor Moulton of Moulton Cleaning Company.  “My cousin was visiting, and placed her overnight bag on the best chair in our house,” said Lois.  “Some potent stuff that she uses on her hair leaked on the chair, and the chair seemed to be ruined.  I called Victor to come down and look at it.  He was there right away, and used an arsenal of machines and liquids for quite a while until he got the chair looking great again!  When I asked how much I owed him, his response was so reasonable that I suggested a barter (I’ve been secretly wanting to update his business card since the day I met him).   He agreed, and I finally got to design a business card for him that is reflects better the great job that he does — and what a nice guy!”

Janet Laberge from Dirty Deeds thanks Loraine Fields of The Flower Mill for providing the beautiful centerpieces at Celebration.  Dirty Deeds had donated the containers from clean-outs, and it was fun to see how creative Loraine was in putting them to good use.  Janet also thanks her ‘minions,’ Judy Walsh Rodriguez of Watch All, Michael Christopher of Interactive Digital Systems, Kristen Ford Hernandez of Premiere Pros and Loraine Fields of The Flower Mill “…for the total team effort and strong support system (meaning the rolling metal cart under my throne, I mean seat) that made for a successful entrance without anyone getting hurt.”  Thanks also go to Jennifer McCauley Logue for writing a great press release about Celebration! that Janet forwarded to the Pembroke Express, along with a picture from member photographer Kat Hanafin. “Any time Dirty Deeds gets in the paper and it’s not the obituaries or the police blotter, it’s a good day,” said Janet.

Both served as such great venues, and Diane and Bonnie stood out as hostesses par excellence!

What an exciting Celebration! we had!  It was great to see so many of you in attendance and I am looking forward to a wonderful year with our new president.

Jennifer McCauley Logue of McCauley Logue Communications sends along a heart-felt thank you to Janet Laberge of Dirty Deeds for passing along some of the discarded furniture she collected as part of her clean-out business. “I’m the superintendent of my church Sunday School, and we recently celebrated the opening of our newly renovated Sunday School room,” Jennifer said. “As part of the renovation, we decided to create a nursery area where parents could bring infants during worship if needed. But with the major renovation project, our budget was tight.  Enter Janet: She provided our church with a beautiful (and free!) loveseat, rocker/glider and end table — exactly what we needed!  Janet is a living example of the ‘pay it forward’ principle, and her generosity will benefit our congregation for many years to come!”

Barbara Case of Moors & Cabot Investments has been a member of the Network since 1998.  In that time she has developed her business through contacts, coaching and collaboration.  Earlier this year those relationships, both business and personal, played a huge part in supporting and guiding Barbara with the care of her parents and loss of her father. “There are many to thank,” she said, “including:

• Lynda Chuckran, Welch Healthcare, for her wealth of knowledge, help and guidance, and the excellent care provided to her Mom at a Welch facility;
• Veva Johnson, Professional Bookkeeping, for her wisdom, senior facts and friendship always;

• And the endless cards, plants, gifts, notes, inquiries and visits from so many of the SSWBN members that means so very much.”

Janet Laberge from Dirty Deeds shares a number of thank-yous this month.  First, to Cheryl Arlanson Russo of Arlanson Law Offices for hiring Dirty Deeds to do a clean out for one of their clients in Hanover.  Secondly, thank you to Raquel and Bob Mullaney of Comfort Keepers in Plymouth for using Dirty Deeds for a clean out at their lovely Plymouth home.  Thanks to Attorney Rebecca Coletta of Coletta Law Office in Hanover, for referring a friend to Dirty Deeds to assist in cleaning out her friend’s father’s house after his death.  Thanks to Karla Wood, a case worker at South Shore Elders, for referring a client who needed a couch removed and for letting Dirty Deeds know of another client who was in need of some furniture for his new apartment.  South Shore Elders does a wonderful job with the elders that they serve.  Lastly, Dirty Deeds thanks Joe Hernandez of Premiere Pros for referring a client in Hingham.

Joe and I are sincerely grateful to Beth Sobiloff from Birchwood Enterprises for providing Search Engine Optimization services on our Premiere Pros site.  We have been getting an increase in telephone calls all stating that they found us on Google.  Thank you Beth!

I expect that many of you may have missed some recent SSWBN networking events due to the demands that the month of May makes on everyone’s schedule, so I hope that you look forward to seeing everyone at the CELEBRATION! this month!

The Network’s signature event sets aside time for all members to acknowledge themselves, their accomplishments, and the successes of one another.  It is a time to regenerate your business spirit, and this year it promises to be a night to remember:   with all the activities, food and fun planned– and you never know what wild things incoming President Janet LaBerge (Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap) may pull out of her sleeve when she takes the gavel from outgoing President Stacey Shipman … we just know that we are in for a treat!

Alison Schirone of ac associates thanks Nadine Pfautz of C.H.A.R.T. Consulting for being “Referral Source of the Year.”  Nadine has used her effective networking skills to refer several new leads and new business to ac associates this year.

In turn, Nadine sends a big THANK YOU to Jane Ford of The JoyPath for introducing her to staff at Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School.  Through Upper Cape Tech, Nadine presented a three-hour seminar entitled, “Sail Through with A.C.E. – Attitude, Communication, & Effort,” to 20 staff members at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

Eileen Hayes of Contravisory thanks Loraine Fields of The Flower Mill in South Weymouth. “Loraine provided flowers for my company event and put together FABULOUS table arrangements. Everyone took them home and commented on what a great job she did.”

I hope that after all the recent showers we have had, you all have beautiful May flowers to show for it!  There are a few Connections to share with you this month.

Katie Howard thanks…Dr. Karen Alikhani for being so kind with a root canal consultation.

“Dr. Alikhani’s office is very peaceful – probably the most comfortable place for a root canal!” said Katie.  Katie would also like to thank Adam Cupples of Strategis for creating the “brand” for the SSWBN Communication Revolution happening on May 6th.   Lastly, she sends a “huge” thank you to Bob Conley of Interrobang Web Design, the creator of SSWBN’s new website. “Bob and I spent a lot of time together creating this new site – Bob is simply a fabulous person to work with,” said Katie.

Diane Sargent, Director of Corporate Relations at South Shore Elder Services, Inc., sincerely thanks Alison Schirone of AC Associates for all the time she has dedicated to Diane’s agency helping them to develop a Fundraising and Marketing Plan.  Diane writes, “Alison’s work is exceptional and she is a pleasure to work with.  If you are looking for someone to help you with your marketing plan I would highly recommend Alison Schirone!”  Diane also thanks Lucille Sorrentino of the Weymouth Health Care Center for her recent contribution of flashlights to Diane’s goody bags.

Susan C. Janet sends a big thank you to Jeff Cohen of One Stop Painting, for referring her to one of his painting customers who needed a basement clean-out.  (“Very nice people with three cool cats,” said Janet.)  Janet also thanks Darcy Schramn, of Advanced Court and Conference Reporting, for her referral to a friend in Cohasset who is in need of a clean-out before the house goes on the market.  She also sends a sincere thank you to Claire Lesage of Wittz End for coordinating the clean out of a home in Weymouth for a mutual client moving into Welch Health Care’s newest property, The Village at Proprietor’s Green.  (Member Lynda Chuckran of Welch Health Care will host a SSWBN After Hours Event there on June 3rd.)  The homeowner had a beautiful, nearly new Maytag washer and dryer that Dirty Deeds auctioned off for $600, donating the money to South Shore Elder’s Special Needs Fund via member, Diane Sargent.  Finally, Janet thanks everyone who has picked up something free from her this month:  “Helps to keep my garage empty and to keep stuff out of the landfill.  Pay It Forward,” she said.

The power of networking is evident here in this month’s Connections!

Judy Rodriguez of  WatchAll thanks Terri Martini from Front Street Gourmet for hosting the Business After Hours in February.  “A fun time was had by all,” said Judy, and we encourage all SSWBN members to consider hosting a BAH to showcase their places of business!

Brenda Wornum Moore of BWM Consulting sends a big thank you to Lois Wood for another outstanding bit of work she did for BWM Consulting, Inc.  She designed and created a foldover mailer that Brenda needed for a direct mail campaign to reach targeted customers.  Brenda writes, “I wanted something very creative that wouldn’t be thrown out as junk mail at the first look.  Lois did a fantastic job meeting this goal.   I am more than pleased and can’t say enough about Lois Wood Graphic.”

Cathy Follett from Renovisions would like to publicly thank Loraine Fields for stepping up and helping out at the recent Multi-Chamber Bowling Fundraiser held at Boston Bowl at Hanover.  “All events of this type are much more successful when people are generous with their time.  As Vice President of the Hanover Chamber of Commerce I would like to congratulate and welcome Loraine as one of our newest Hanover Chamber Board members”  said Cathy.

Beth Sobiloff would like to thank Kristen Ford-Hernandez for referring her marketing clients to Birchwood Enterprises for website support and hosting.  Beth said, “I really appreciate Kristen’s willingness to trust me with her clients, and I’m grateful that SSWN has given me the opportunity to meet people like Kristen.”

Janet LaBerge, of Dirty Deeds, Done Dirt Cheap is both the recipient of and the author of a number of Connections made this month.  First, the acknowledgements she received:

Another big thank you to Janet comes from Kathleen A. Keegan, REAL ESTATE ROCKS! & ASSOCIATES for giving her a referral for a listing in Pembroke.  “I met with Lisa, the seller, and we had a great connection, ” said Kathleen.  “I just got back from our meeting where they signed the Listing Agreement for their multi-family house in Pembroke, and I’m looking forward to working with Janet’s folks.  U Rock, Janet!”

As an author of acknowledgements, Janet LaBerge (Dirty Deeds, Done Dirt Cheap) thanks Terri Martini of the Front Street Gourmet for referring Dirty Deeds to a friend in need of a clean out.  “Always great to be referred to someone with a great sense of humor,” said Janet.  Pulling out a big chest freezer that was duct-taped shut, Janet banged on the side away from the homeowner and made muffled “help me” sounds.  After a few panicky seconds, the homeowner burst into laughter as she realized what was happening.  Janet also thanks Kristen Ford-Hernandez of Premiere Pros for inviting Dirty Deeds to participate in the Home Show held recently at the Weymouth Health Club.  “Coldstone Creamery giving away free ice cream samples sealed the deal,” for her participation, Janet said.

In addition, Janet gives her “annual thanks” to Elizabeth Pineault, CPA for “once again putting my QuickBook numbers into IRS readable forms.”  Further, she thanks “all the good folks that helped to move stuff along from Dirty Deeds to new homes.  Always good to have a team of resource reallocation specialists (a/k/a takers of stuff).”

As one of the above-referenced ‘reallocation specialists,’ I am sending Janet my personal and sincere thanks for the fantastic bureau and lamp she recently bestowed upon me!  She truly does epitomize the ‘pay it forward’ attitude!

Finally, my editor acknowledges the Marketing Queen of the building trades, Allison Quinn Guido of Almar Building & Remodeling Company for sending out timely instructions and tips for anyone who may have gotten water in their basements last month.  What a great public service!

I am really looking forward to all our new programs, new website and new people joining our great organization!! Two thousand ten is really looking to be a stellar year! We have some great connections to share and I am grateful to all the members for sharing them.

Cheryl Arlanson-Russo of Arlanson Law Offices submitted the following thank-you. “I recently hired Premiere Pros to paint the interior of my entire house. Kristen was terrific and provided a complimentary color consultation. She has an excellent eye for color and just seems to know what will “work.” I have had several compliments including “wow–love it!” about the color she picked for my living room. Thanks to the outstanding services Premiere provided.”

Nadine Pfautz of C.H.A.R.T. Consulting sends a special thank you to Janet LaBerge of Dirty Deeds and Jane Ford of the JoyPath. As some know, Nadine is now babysitting for her four-month-old grand-niece once a week. Nadine’s niece found it difficult to bring all the necessary baby paraphernalia with her each time she brought the baby. So Nadine put out a call for help to a couple of her SSWBN Roundtable friends. Janet and Jane graciously responded, Janet by locating and delivering a carriage and baby rocking seat, and Jane by gladly donating a car seat and baby monitor that had been taking up room at her house. Nadine said, “It is wonderful to have a group of business associates who are also friends. Their responsiveness and support on a personal level is just as important as the support and wisdom I have come to rely on throughout the almost four years we have been together as roundtable members.”

Nadine also gives special thanks to Lois Wood of Lois Wood Graphic Design for the fabulous 2010 calendars that Lois designed on her behalf. Many have commented on the design and the calendars have created quite a buzz.

Kathleen Ogar of Infinite Health & Wellness would like to thank Alison Schirone of AC Associates for providing her with the marketing help to her revitalize her natural health practice.

Barry Gordon of Gordon, Mond & Ott, PC thanks Premiere Pros for painting his family bathroom. Barry writes, “There had been a leak in our ceiling and we needed some repair work and painting done. Premiere came in and taped off and covered everything, painted, then cleaned up. A day later there was no way to know they were there except for the fact that everything was new and perfect.”

Working in tandem as complementary business, Elizabeth said that “Veva did a great job of bringing order and therefore value to the client’s accounting records,” so that together they could bring the client’s books up-to-date and fully into compliance.”

I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every member for their contributions, friendship and support that I have received since joining the network a few years ago. I consider it such an honor to be part of a great organization and I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year!

Our President-elect, Janet LaBerge, (Dirty Deeds, Done Dirt Cheap), took this opportunity to reflect on the many people in the Network whom she wishes to acknowledge:

“It has been another great year being a member of SSWBN. Because of my relationships in the Network, my business has continued to grow and I’ve met so many funny, intelligent people. My business goal this year was to do business only with people who are funny or fun, so it has made for a great year, as this Network has lots of funny people in it. Life is too short. Laugh a lot!

“Thanks to everyone in the Network who made me laugh or laughed at my jokes, especially the women who visit my “office,” aka the Alumni Café in Pembroke. For this month, thanks go out to Priscilla Chura of Small Biz CFO, who has taken over the bookkeeping duties at The Devanna Center, where I sit on the Board of Directors. Many thanks to Veva Johnson, of Professional Bookkeeping Services, who performed this job previously; and we thank her for her many years on the Board of Directors.

“Thank you to Casey Kerr of Roaring Stones for the beautiful bracelet, necklace and key chain that she made for me. Not only are they beautiful, but because they are made from healing stones, they are helping to ward off negative energy and bring positive light into my life. Thanks to Barry Gordon, of Gordon, Mond & Ott, Attorneys at Law, who is helping a friend of mine who was injured in a rear end car accident and has finally made the difficult decision to take legal action. Thanks to Alison Schirone, of AC Associates, for the privilege of helping with a cleanout for her husband Bob. Thanks to Patty Dunigan (Patty Payroll) of BizChecks for offering to do the payroll at The Devanna Center for free in 2010 as a way of giving back to the community.

“Thanks to Heather Bren of Mastors and Servant Risk Services for reviewing all my insurance policies to assure I have adequate coverage. Thanks to Patty Funder of LaserLight for starting the skin rejuvenation process on my face (the after-face will be revealed at State of the Network in January). I appreciate that she didn’t pull out a belt sander, but used a smallish laser tool! Thanks to Lynda Chuckran of Welch Health Care for introducing me to the manager of their new facility, Village at Proprietors Green. Finally, thanks to Terri Martini of The Front Street Gourmet in Scituate. She put together a fantastic basket that made me look like a million bucks when I dropped it off to my disposal folks at DESAC.

“Hope I haven’t left anyone out. Thanks to all of you who may have received something free from me this year and agreed to follow my motto of “Pay It Forward.” This world is a better place when we all do it.”

And finally, Our SSWBN Director of Operations, Katie Howard wants to thank Christy Kendrick of ACME Glass. Katie writes, “I had a crack in my windshield that needed to be replaced. I called the Abington ACME shop, they came and picked up my car (it’s too big to replace in the driveway), and brought it back within 45 minutes. Great customer service with a smile! Thanks to ACME! Beep Beep!”
Katie also thanks Toni Eaton of Old Colony Hospice for her guidance in helping a family member in need. “She is a super resource and I can’t thank her enough,” said Katie.
